BENEFITS OF SWITCHING TO SILICONE ICE TRAYS WITH SPILL-RESISTANT LIDS

  • Silicone trays are flexible. You know removing ice from plastic or metal containers can be a hustle. With silicone trays removing every single ice cube is possible. It can be done quickly with very little effort.

  • Silicone trays are durable. Silicone is a very durable material and it will last longer if you take proper care of it. It can withstand both hot and cold temperatures. Since the trays are heat-resistant up to 230°C/450°F, you can also pour in hot liquids—but we don’t recommend baking with them. Since we primarily designed it to make ice, we haven’t tested the tray thoroughly for baking. Prolonged exposure to heat can cause the silicone to discolor.

  • Silicone trays are non-porous. This means that they don’t absorb flavors. What is more important, silicone is resistant to bacteria and it is very easy to sterilize silicone ice trays. Do not worry if you notice white residue on your tray as over time, the minerals in your tap water can build up on silicone—it's harmless, but we know you might want to get rid of it. You can follow the cleaning instructions we have provided below.

  • Silicone ice trays with lids are space-efficient. You can stack multiple trays on each other. Secondly, transporting the water-filled trays from the sink to the freezer is spill-resistant with ice trays that come with lids. Make sure not to fill the wells too close to the dividers, leaving room for the water to expand slightly as it freezes. Lastly, the lids preserve the freshness of the contents whether it’s plain ice, herbs, or something else.

  • Silicone ice trays are made with BPA-free material. Many people believe silicone is a safer choice compared to plastic. While silicone is a synthetic material, food-grade silicone is not toxic as it is made of sand (silica).

TIPS & TRICKS:

  • Want to make your ice less cloudy? The way a household freezer traps air in cubes as they freeze gives them that typical cloudy look. To get clearer ice, use distilled water, and boil it twice before freezing.

  • Want to “punch” up your water? Cut up small pieces of your favorite fruit and herbs, divide them up between wells, and pour water over the top, being careful not to overfill the wells. These cubes will add an extra pop of flavor to your drink as your ice melts. Here are some suggestions: You can add some lemon cubes with lime slices and mint to your water for a refreshing, sugar-free alternative to lemonade on hot summer days. You can also freeze your favorite juice to make colorful cubes that will turn sparkling water into a fruit soda as they melt or make champagne into a mimosa.

  • Want to make better-iced coffee? Freeze leftover coffee into cubes. You can use it to keep the caffeine buzz going instead of regular ice as it waters down your coffee as it melts.

  • Want to save your leftover fresh herbs for use later? Divide up your fresh herbs, pour olive oil over them, and freeze to create a quick meal starter for later. Just melt a couple of cubes in a skillet and sauté with your favorite meat or seafood and a side vegetable of your choice for an easy, healthy two-step meal.

  • Want to “stock” up on bouillon? Freeze cubes of leftover broth to use as a quick starter for a soup or sauce later.

  • Want to post something new on your Instagram? Freeze edible flowers into your ice cubes to make drinks for an Instagram-worthy brunch with friends.
